A Shower of Peonies

One of the bride's favorite flowers, the Peony, was the headliner for this shower given by her favorite aunt on her dad's side.  ( It's her only aunt on her dad's side) Ha Ha! Corgi's are extremely funny.

More of the Wedding Run Down

Wedding dress shopping was the highlight of the preparations, but there were still lots of things to do and a lot of fun and stress to be had.

There were showers ( I'm confused, because I thought showers involved water, which I do not care for) but this involved food, fun and presents.  Three of my favorite things.

One of the showers, was at the now famous TUCK U INN at the GLICK MANSION in Atchison KS.  The house is always beautiful and the shower (without water) was fabulous. 

The theme was all about the Red Shoes.  Oh yes, the bride is wearing red shoes.  They are incredible, but they definitely are for people and not Corgis.  I don't know though I might rethink that.

The day was HOT, but it didn't stop the fun.  The food was tasty.  We had chicken salad sandwiches, fruit compote, red velvet cupcakes and red shoe sugar cookies made by the mother of the bride.

The presents were many and greatly appreciated.  Christine will need to cook and invite me over so she can use her fabulous gifts.

The Eye Doc Gets Married

How do you write a love story?  You write about Christine and Alex.  After knowing each other during high school, they began dating the summer after graduation and that is where the story begins.

In August they both went off to KU. They both are about everything KU especially KU basketball.

The Christmas of their senior year, Alex gave Christine his grandmother's diamond engagement ring as a promise of things to come.  After 4 years of really hard work and giving up alot of the KU life, they both graduated with a degree in Human Biology (I don't know why they didn't pick Corgi Biology, it would have been more interesting).

This is where the plot thickens,  she went off to the University of Missouri, St Louis for Optometry and he went to University of Missouri, Kansas City for Dentistry.  Thus began the I-70 romance.  They traveled that highway so many times their cars could drive it while they slept.  Just kidding!  During their 3rd year of grad. school, Alex proposed marriage, but first he made a special trip to the home town to ask the father of the intended bride for her hand in marriage.  He is such a good boy.  Of course the dad said yes and then we celebrated with what else, food.  Soon after that, Alex surprised Christine by proposing to her in Campanile (famous bell tower at KU) on bended knee with her favorite flowers, Stargazer lilies and roses while the bells played in the tower.  That was an extra treat because two girls were on there way to the tower to play, so they offered to play while he proposed.  Lucky guy, I'm telling you.  Oh,  the girl said YES!

After 4 years and lots of trips and phone calls they both graduated May of 2011 and then it was all about the wedding and I mean "it was on"!

Here is a run down of how it went:

First there was wedding dress shopping!  There was criteria for the dress of course.  Sweetheart neckline,  lots of fuff (where ever that is, it's not in the Corgi vocab), and most of all the train, because the train is the dress and the dress is the train.  We did the some of the shopping in St Louis.  Here are some of the choices.

The Eye Doc

After 4 years at the great University of Kansas  ( KU ) the eye doc was off to the University of Missouri at St Louis (UMSL) College of Optometry.  You know, it is really hard for a KU person to go to a Missouri school but, she is tough and she did it!!!

After 2 years of hard work and studying she was awarded her "White Coat" at a ceremony.  This allows her to enter the clinics and actual practice on patients.

2 more long hard years and the girl is now an official Eye Doc ( Optometrist )  We had a great time celebrating  in St Louis.

We had many great times in St. Louis and ate great food and had tons of fun.

The Budweiser Brewer is an incredible piece of history.  The buildings are beautiful and are a testimony to the American Dream and the love for America.

We went to a Cardinals game and tried an oyster bar after the game.  No thanks!!!!

We ate the most amazing Italian food on the "Hill" at Guido's.  The food is the best and the family is sooo Italian and Spanish.
We had some the best ice cream in the world at Oberwiess (sp) and at the Fountain on Locust Street. Check out this incredible art work.  The place has been completely restored and you feel like you are stepping back into the 1930s.

The Rest of My First Year in a Glance

In October the lady nurse and her best friend had a party at the friend's B&B (Tuck U Inn at The Glick Mansion)  They made champagne cupcakes with real looking edible butterflies.  They were gorgeous.

Thanksgiving time, friends of the Flute Chic ( they are missionaries in Italy) came to stay with us for  6 weeks.    They are an amazing couple doing amazing things for God and raising 3 girls soon to be 4.

Christmas was awesome.  I got my goat to herd!!

But, all the excitement wore me out and I had to have a nap.   Year one was the best year of my life.  I'm ready to see what the New Year brings

Garden Visitors - Friend or Foe?

This young man came unexpectedly to visit.  The handsome cowboy is a licensed trapper and this guy ended up in a trap meant for someone else.  He was not happy!!!  He was release in a distant location and has not returned.

One night this young owl perched in our oak tree long enough for the handsome cowboy to take his picture.

Have you ever kissed a Snapper and lived to tell about it?  I have because as we all know CORGIS RULE!!!!!

But here is the Turtle Master.  The handsome dude has been herding turtles since he could walk and found out there was a creek in his life.

Mama bunny liked to hang out with the lady nurse when she would relax on her bench after a hard day at work saving lives.  Mama stayed around until she had her babies.
